Alright guys I'm already going to start on this topic because I want to figure out exactly what I'm going to get on my next truck because I've begun the search for a new one. I'm going to be getting an HD truck. Probably a 2013 or 2014 not too sure yet depends on how many miles I put on it in the next few months. I will do some towing with boats, and a 20ft trailer also as well as constantly hauling four wheelers. I will get a 2500 HD Crew Cab 4WD LTZ with the 6.6 in either white or black and it will be blacked out like my current truck with 20 inch black rims. Also I want to get an EFI Live tune but yet I have no idea how it works... Do I have to find a place that does EFI Live tuning around where I live or can I do it all online? I want a tune for towing, a tune for MPG, race tune, and smoke tune. I know with some of you, the smoke tune will disappoint you. It won't be used much but it will be used every once in a while to smoke out some assholes that cut me off and stuff like that. I haven't decided if I want to lift it or not... My current truck has 37s and a 9 inch lift, and by the way I am 18. My next truck I will get when I'm 19, or 20 probably. I figure this truck I'll keep until I'm around 23 or 24 which is when I'll start my family so I'll probably have a kid by this point so I don't want to have to deal with having a hard time getting my kid in my truck. I'm just not sure If I don't lift it I'll atleast level it with some 35s on it. I'll get an intake and throttle body spacer, straight pipe, EFI live, lift pump. What else will I need that will help my performance as well as what I'm looking for in my truck. Also how much am I looking at for the upgrades you recommend as well?

Congrats on the big plans :D! If you want the best stock vehicle, go with a 2011+ Duramax. If you want a diesel that will be the best for modding, get a 2006-2007.5 LBZ Duramax. After that model year, the EPA gets heavily involved :X.

Take some time and visit duramaxforum.com- they've got GREAT info on things like routine maintenance, as well as crazy fast build plans. If you do it right, you'll be looking at 20 MPG, 1200 HP, and 2500 lb-ft of torque. In a straight line, there is nothing on the street that can touch a heavily modified diesel.

Well I've got an 800 hp mustang and I want something that's as mean as that but yet I can tow a 28' trailer. I don't care about mpg or gov't regulations honestly I get 9.9 to the gallon now with 2% tint, exhaust is illegal too. Arkansas doesn't care about smog and all that shit lol. So I want just a monster diesel that looks mean and smokes when I want it to. Cab Lights, lift, tires, maybe a twin turbo kit. The whole 9 yards. Lets see what we can get for me.:D I want this thing mean!

It depends upon your definition of "the whole 9 yards", and also upon your wallet size. Plan on about $40-60K to get past 1000 HP. You'll need a fully re-built tranny, as well as a bigger fuel system, and those engine internals need to be changed out, too.

The connecting rods aren't good for anything past 500 HP, I've heard. Heck, you can add 200 HP with just a tune, so I would imagine that a full engine build is quite necessary.

100 horses on a gasser isn't that much these days. A good tune, full exhaust, intake, throttle body, throttle body spacer, headers and you'll hit about 100 horses to the engine.
With my duramax stock I'll probably spend 60 grand or so then from there I know I want EFI live but I'm not sure who does it around my area (Fayetteville, Arkansas) or my home town in south Arkansas near Pine Bluff whenever I go home. Honestly I'd be willing to drive 200 miles to get it tuned. Anyways EFI live, straight pipe, higher gears, 150 injectors, maybe a cheetah turbo, good intake, lift pump and not to sure from there. How much does it cost to get a lift pump put in and is it worth it? I've been reading up on tranny builds lately. How much of a build are we talking with just those upgrades. Just a trans go jr shift kit or all my gears beefed up and clutch changed, pressure plate, all that good stuff.

You'll need to fully rebuild the transmission. The stock one will run forever, as long as the engine is stock. Once you add 90-100 HP, you're begging for a burned out transmission. Plan on at least $6K for the transmission alone; you'll want to upgrade the cooling system, too.

If you're planning on dumping in more fuel and more boost, you'll need some tough internals to handle it. Those parts are small, but they will eat up most of your budget. Take a few days, and spend time on the popular Duramax forums. They will give you plenty of ideas :)!

How in the hell can you afford this stuff at such a young age lol. Got some intresting plans ahead for your future, got it all planned out and hope it works out for ya. If you want to learn diesle you need to join duramaxforum.com. No body knows about 2014 yet but 2011+ duramaxs cannot be ttuned with EFI live at all. Star spangled told you what you gotta do bbut ill add. If your going to push anything 100hp+ on the duramax you will have to start with rebuilding the allision transmission to handle it. it can take 100-150 and hold it for a long time if you baby it but if your hard on it often you will limp the tranny fast. After that you will need to spend a couple grand on getting a built engine and bigger turbo. Twins is great for keeping EGT's low and for towing but i belive one single turbo built to race would be better then twins. Good luck with your build, keep us updated and join DF!!
